Seed of Compassion Community Outreach (SoCCO) exists to relieve poverty, reduce family breakdown, and provide practical and emotional support to families, women, single parents, and children within the Black and Ethnic Minority (BAME) community. Our objectives are achieved through parenting seminars, confidential counselling, workshops, the provision of essential items and food, awareness sessions on mental health and safeguarding, and personal development programmes that empower families to thrive. In line with the commitments outlined at the close of 2023, SoCCO continued to deliver monthly seminars, confidential counselling, workshops, and courses for mothers, fathers, and families. Our theme for 2024 was Mindful Motherhood, and we designed our activities around creating safe spaces where parents felt supported, empowered, and equipped to raise thriving children. We launched the year with a free breakfast seminar titled: Beyond Survival (Parenting with Purpose). This event tackled practical parenting issues, encouraged mothers to remain hopeful in difficult circumstances, and created an interactive environment for sharing experiences. Mothers were linked with one another for peer support, and practical information was provided on how to access long-term help. Throughout the year, several families approached us for confidential intervention, which we provided through counselling, mentoring, and family mediation.
